At Swanbourne, we understand that trips can be one of the most the exciting things for a child and so we believe that trips are a very important part of school life. Our trips range from local day trips to residential tours.
Outdoor education on trips provides a range of teambuilding and leadership challenges which has the children's character firmly in view. Our residential trips really serve to build character and encourage independence. They always return motivated and enthusiastic and most importantly with a true understanding and respect for teamwork. The table below shows an overview of the trips from last year, most of which are regularly on the calendar.

Below is a short summary of the residential trips that the 7s-TY undertake.
7s Overnight Camp
The 7s have a chance to spend their first night away from school during the Summer Term. They go away for one night to a venue close to school where they build on the skills learned and challenges faced at the 6s Adventure Day.
8s Outdoor Education Adventure
In April, the 8s go away for two nights to an activity centre near Bristol. Here they take part in an obstacle course, climbing, basic navigation and camp craft skills, all the time building on their experiences from previous courses. This is a trip that the 8s thoroughly enjoy.
9s Peak District Weekend
The 9s weekend away takes place in the Peak District in September. The highlight of the weekend is a long abseil off an old railway bridge. The 9s have the chance to do more advanced navigation and hill walking as well as climbing on the Burbage crags.
10s River Wye Adventure
Over a weekend in the summer term the 10s undertake a journey canoeing down the River Wye. The highlight of the weekend is riding the rapids through Symonds Yat. A short video of this trip is shown above.
11s Chateau Trip
The very popular 11s trip to France takes place in September. The 11s are away for one week to improve their French and to take part in outdoor activities.
Top Year Leavers’ Trip
After all the hard work revising for and sitting the CE exams, the Top Year take a very well deserved break in Dartmoor. It is on this trip that the children put together all the skills they have learnt over the years. They also experience their caving for the first time, which is usually voted the best activity of the week.
