Q. What was your role at Swanbourne before becoming a Boarding Houseparent? 

Miss Myers: I’m excited to be starting my third academic year in Swanbourne. Since joining the school in 2020, I have lead History and will continue to do this alongside my new role. I also support the Games Department in delivering both boys and girls’ Hockey, and I’m both a Personal Tutor and Form Tutor.

Q. How long have you been involved in Boarding? 

Miss Myers: I have been a Resident Tutor in the Boarding House since I started at Swanbourne and have hugely enjoyed working with both the boarding team and boarders. Prior to Swanbourne and at my previous school in Kent, I assisted with one of the Junior Boarding Houses with Mr Henderson.

Q. What is the role of a Boarding Houseparent? 

Miss Myers: Being a Houseparent is about supporting our Boarders in all their time at Swanbourne. This isn’t just during the regular school day, but in helping create a home-away-from-home in which they feel comfortable and safe, whilst having lots of fun, across the mornings, evenings & weekends.

Q. What are you looking forward to most about the role? 

Miss Myers: Both Mr Henderson and I are incredibly excited about creating an exciting and inspiring programme of creative activities and excursions for the boarders. We will be sharing more details soon! However, most of all, I am looking forward to getting to know all of our wonderful Swanbournians in the Boarding House!

Q. What was your role before being involved in Boarding? 

Mr Henderson: I was Director of Hockey and Games teacher at Abingdon School in Oxford. 

Q. How long have you been involved in Boarding? 

Mr Henderson: I’m thrilled to be starting at Swanbourne House this academic year, however I have been living in Swanbourne for the last two years so know the area well. In terms of boarding experience, I was previously the Assistant Houseparent at Beresford House at Sutton Valence School in Kent.

Q. What are you looking forward to most about the role? 

Mr Henderson: To give our boarders a sense of family and home whilst staying and learning at Swanbourne. Getting to know each of the boarders individually, helping them thrive in this incredible boarding environment we have and making pancakes and waffles on a Sunday mornings!
