Peter's background in education spans 36 years in the Independent sector, both senior and preparatory. Peter has been a Headmaster of two Preparatory Schools for some 16 years and has experience in day and boarding settings. Peter has been a governor for a number of years both at Swanbourne and elsewhere and has fulfilled a variety of roles within IAPS.

Mrs S Tyler, BA Jurisprudence (Oxon)

Mrs Susan Tyler has been a governor at Swanbourne House since November 2010.
Governor Responsibilities: Chair – Governance Committee, Governor with responsibility for Safeguarding, Member of the Education Committee. Mrs Tyler worked as a solicitor in Family (London) & Child Care (Bucks CC) departments. She was also a Governor at Turnfurlong Infant School, Aylesbury for seven years (to November 2008).
Mr M Dear, BTh (Oxon), GDL
Director of Development, Oundle School
Area of support: Marketing & Development
Matthew Dear has been the Director of Development at Oundle School since 2013. His background is in voluntary sector marketing, having taken a degree in Theology and a postgraduate diploma in Law. He is also a Governor of Kingsmoor Lower School in Bedfordshire and joined the Board of Swanbourne House in March 2016. A member of the Governance and Development Committees.
Mrs N Dick-Cleland, MA (Oxon), GTP/QTS
Head of The Abbey Junior School, Reading
Area of support: Education
Nicola has been Head of The Abbey Junior School since 2014, having previously taught at a co-ed prep school. Following her degree in Experimental Psychology from The Queen's College, Oxford, she worked as a senior manager at BT for a number of years before retraining as a psychotherapist. With a particular interest in personal development and organisational change, Nicola is a member of the Education Committee.
Mr A Land
Headmaster of Harrow

Educated at Manchester Grammar School, Mr Land gained a First Class honours degree in Natural Sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge from where he went on to teach Biology at Eton College. After almost a decade at Eton, he moved to become Master in College and Senior Housemaster at Winchester College, then Deputy Head Master at Harrow, before joining Repton as Headmaster in 2016. Alastair became Head Master of Harrow School in April 2019.

Senior Deputy Head, Felsted School
Area of support: Education, Boarding & Learning Support
George Masters is Senior Deputy Head at Felsted School, having been a Housemaster at Bradfield College in Berkshire, where he was also a pupil. As an Old Bradfieldian and Governor at Swanbourne House he is pleased to maintain the historic link between the two schools. George read Theology at the University of Durham and qualified as a teacher through the University of Buckingham. He has been a Governor at Swanbourne since March 2015, serves on the Education Committee and provides governance oversight of Boarding.
Mrs T O’Neill, BA (Law & Accounting), ACA, AITI
Area of support: Finance & Development
Tara studied law and accounting at the University of Limerick in Ireland before going on to train as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor with Arthur Andersen in the International Financial Service Centre, Dublin. With 15 years of experience at Executive Board level driving international groups with UK headquarters her experience spans the plc and private equity sectors. Tara is currently CEO of Avoca is a parent of three boys, two of whom attend the school. A member of the Development and Finance and General Purpose Committees.
Mr M J W Rushton
Area of support: Finance & Investment
Mark Rushton graduated in 1984 with an MA in Law from Cambridge and is a past parent of the school. He joined the Governing Board in 2002. With 30 years in the investment industry and 20 years of involvement in schools, his area of support for the School is in Development and Finance. A member of the Finance and General Purpose Committee.
Mr J Sykes, BA, ACA

James Sykes was educated at Marlborough and then read History at The University of Birmingham. On graduation he joined the City firm of accountants Saffery Champness where he became a partner in 1997. His practice involves advising wealthy individuals and families from the UK and overseas on tax and accounting matters. He is also a non-executive director and chair of the audit committee for Henry Boot plc. All three of his children have been to Swanbourne House. He has been a Governor since 2015. His particular area of expertise is finance. He chairs the Finance and General Purpose Committee.
