Scholarships and Achievements

The School is rightly proud of all the many and diverse achievements gained by pupils at Swanbourne House. Our School Performance publication each year summarises the achievements of pupils in academics, music, sport, drama and other areas.

In the 11s and Top Year applications are welcomed for scholarships in Academic, Sport, Art, DT, Music, Drama and All-Round (academic ability based on current performance plus two practical subjects).  In the first instance, candidates are required to submit a letter, in support of their application, no longer than one side of A4 (handwritten or typed as preferred) detailing why they believe they are suitable to be a scholar in their chosen discipline(s). Following receipt of the letter of application, candidates will complete a practical assessment in their chosen discipline(s), or for Academic scholarships, a 1 hour examination in both Maths and English. This will be followed by an Interview with a senior member of staff

Please note that these awards are not intended for pupils already attending the senior department of other IAPS schools, and candidates from such schools will only be accepted with their present school's approval. Parents of external candidates who are thinking of entering their child for a scholarship are warmly invited to telephone for an appointment to view the school prior to the preliminary examination.

Swanbourne is proud of its moral and charitable commitment to widening participation in our School and in keeping with our commitment to social responsibility, these scholarships are honorary and do not carry a financial award. Rather, the monies that would have been offered as a financial award are used to support and enhance the Scholarship Programme and to enable as many young people as possible to benefit from a Swanbourne education.
