TESLA comes to Swanbourne

In December students were lucky enough to welcome two members of TESLA to run an exciting and informative workshop for our Scholars and Car Designers.

The children were enthralled by having the opportunity to explore two vehicles: The Model X and the New Model 3. The children were able to look at the vehicles inside and out as well as try out some of the new functions within the vehicle which included the ability to play games on the internal display unit and pick their favourite songs on the sound system.

The group also had the opportunity to see the built in safety features of the car and ask questions on the design features; including why they put the batteries underneath the car, the designed spaces in the front and rear of the vehicle and the choice of materials used in the making of the vehicle. One of the children’s favourite moments was seeing the cars dance!

“The children were excited and engaged throughout the TESLA workshop. They asked intriguing questions and thoroughly explored the two vehicles brought to school. It was fantastic to see such eagerness in the engineering and science involved in the car industry.”                                          Mrs Becker, Head of Maths

This was teamed with an exciting quiz on TESLA and the ethos behind electric cars. The children explored reusable fuel sources and countries that are working towards being carbon neutral. Attention was drawn to how far the United Kingdom sat behind other countries in our drive to lower our carbon emissions, looking at the aims of different developments of industries in order to reduce our carbon footprint. The group had opportunities to ask many insightful questions on the engineering approach to the development of TESLA vehicles and the company’s future aims and vision.
