All 10s have now completed their 12-week Paws b Mindfulness course.
What is Mindfulness? At its most basic level, mindfulness trains our attention to be more aware of what is actually happening, rather than worrying about what has happened or what might happen. We learnt to bring greater curiosity to whatever it is we experience. This helps us to not only appreciate what is going well but to respond more skillfully in the here and now to life’s inevitable challenges.
Following the Mindfulness in School Project’s Paws b Curriculum, 10s have been learning about many things, including:
- Specific areas of the brain and how these affect our ability to focus, make good choices, recognise when we need to steady ourselves when our body or mind is busy or out of balance.
- Ways that mindfulness can support them in many day-to-day activities, including concentration and memory, behavioural self- management, and in relationships with family and friends.
- Ways to respond rather than react – and therefore make better choices and take best care of ourselves and others.
