Stowe Keyboard Day 

This week a group of selected Year 8 children travelled to Stowe to take part in their Prep Schools’ Keyboard Day. A group of about 25 pianists assembled in the stunning Ugland Auditorium in the Chung Music School at Stowe to work on various ensemble pieces on their Steinway pianos. A wonderful experience for the children as pianists so rarely have the opportunity to play together. There were also opportunities throughout the day for a masterclass session with Ben Andrew, Head of Keyboard, a very enjoyable (and loud) demonstration on the Stowe organ, a short lunchtime concert form some very talented Stoic pianists, plus of course the all-important visit to the Stowe tuck shop! After a hard day’s work, the children came together to put on a fabulous concert at the end of the day, with many solos and ensemble pieces of a very high standard. My thanks to Stowe music staff, especially Ben Andrew for organising the day, plus old Stoic Miss Tyson for accompanying us and helping so much with the musical side of things.
