At the start of term pupils were lucky enough to enjoy a visit from Leon McCarron for a wonderful talk and team building session.
Leon is a writer, BBC presenter and has navigated many documented adventures which include a 1000-mile loop of the Holy Land, riding across Patagonia on horseback and cycling over 14,000 miles across three continents.
Leon spoke to Swanbourne children about his adventures, inspiring them with tales of his achievements, world experiences and future plans. After some questions Leon set the pupils, in small groups, the task of mapping out his next venture. The students had to make decisions on: which continents, what countries, how long would it take, mode of travel, what to pack, who would they take with them, what were the risks?
Producer of three independent feature films and author of two books, Leon is a TV presenter with recent work including a one-hour film for the BBC on the legacy of the explorer Lord Dufferin: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0bt4f2q He has also made a 4-part series for National Geographic of his gruelling 3000 mile expedition walking the length of China from the Gobi desert in Mongolia to South China Sea in Hong Kong.
He has also reported for the BBC’s ‘From Our Own Correspondent’ from the West Bank, Iraq, and Socotra.
Leon is a guest writer and features in publications such as National Geographic, New Scientist, BBC, The Guardian, The Sunday Times and The Telegraph. He is also a featured contributor on Adventure.com
