Year 8 Go Pond Dipping

What is inside the pond?…

Year 8 spent Tuesday afternoon exploring the aquatic world of the Swanbourne pond!

Equipped with pond nets and wellies, they crossed the golf course and sampled the pond fauna by sweeping a figure of eight in the water at the edge of the pond. Squeals of delight were heard as students discovered water beetles, pond snails, caddis fly larvae, leeches, water boatmen and newts! They then headed back to the lab to investigate the microscopic invertebrates and found Daphnia (water fleas) which were carefully observed under the microscope and students were able to see the beating hearts of these amazing organisms!🏞️
