Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)

PSHE at Swanbourne House is an inclusive subject that is taught both within the formal curriculum and outside the classroom. All children from Foundation to Year 8 are provided with opportunities to explore a wide variety of attitudes and values. The pupils learn about themselves as growing and changing individuals with their own experiences and ideas, and also as members of a community sharing thoughts and feelings with their peers. Swanbourne House children are taught about the wider world and the importance of playing a part as a global citizen. To add to this, we often have external speakers and groups visiting school to speak to the children to broaden their educational experiences. Recent examples include ChildNet (internet safety experts) and Brook (relationships and puberty advice, as appropriate).

We ensure that care is taken to cover within all aspects of the curriculum and the wider life at Swanbourne House, the promotion of fundamental British values.

Areas covered in the curriculum are:

  • Developing confidence and responsibility, and making the most of individual abilities
  • Preparing to play an active role as citizens
  • Developing a healthy, safer lifestyle
  • Developing good relationships and respecting the differences between people
  • Developing skills of enquiry and communication
  • Developing skills of participation and responsible action
